The Artist

I
was born and raised in Tucson Arizona. I have two beautiful children. My son
Brent (26 years old) wed Amanda Ursini in Tennessee on April 29, 2006. I'm
so happy for them both and welcome Amanda into our family with open arms!
My daughter Megan is 24. Megan made me a grandmother on June 2nd, 2003! I
was fortunate to have been there for the birth of "Makaila Nicole",
see picture below. Professionally I have worked in health care for over 20
years, working as a Respiratory Therapist for over 10 years (retiring in 2001).
I have been very fortunate to have traveled to many different countries, all
over the United States and have lived in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, California
and Nevada. On August 12, 2000, I married the man that makes my heart sing,
Clem Mann. Clem is from Victoria, B.C. (Vancouver Island) and that is where
we now make our home! Victoria is a fantastic place to live and if you have
never had a chance to visit here, you should put Victoria on the top of your
list for vacation spots.
Although I have never been trained in art formally, I come from a VERY talented family and I think a little bit rubbed off on me. I have always been crafty and I have done just about everything at one time or another. One of my favorite crafts is cross-stitching with many unfinished projects on the shelf since I started beading. Beading was one of the few crafts I hadn't tried my hand at until about 2 years ago. My closest friend of 30 years had taken a trip to Alaska and had seen some beaded amulet bags, peaking her interest enough to buy instruction booklets. After she had shown me some of her finished pieces, I thought I would like to try it as well. I instantly fell in love with beading. At the time I was working 12-hour night shifts at the hospital and took my beading into work with me so that I could bead during my breaks (keep me awake !). Coworkers, nurses, etc. were ordering my amulet bags quicker than I could bead them. I couldn't believe it! There are some incredible bead artists with great books/patterns, which I was buying up like crazy. Through a lot of trial and error (I am all self taught), I was starting to bead more and more advanced projects and began to start designing my own patterns. That is how my beading career began!
Since I moved to Victoria, I have retired from health care and bead full time. I am designing more projects of my own even though I can't help bead other designers patterns (There are so many great designers and patterns available). I hope that one day I will truly be able to make a living with my beadwork and that my name will be known for the beautiful hand-beaded amulet bags I create!
